Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder
Isn't she perfect?
False Priest by of Montreal
Jon Brion tried to amplify Kevin's swag, but it kind of had the opposite effect. Sick to hear Kevin sing with Solange and a full fledge rock sound ala Famine Affair. Kevin shines through on this album but Jon does not. Would've been better if Kevin took the reigns I imagine.
Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder
Somebody at work played this, and every time a new song came on it was like "oh shit I forgot this song was on here, god damn how many bangers did Stevie put on this thing." Stevie said this was "the hardest album" he ever made.
Mama’s Gun by Erykah Badu
"How good it is..." Simply sensational. As an avant-garde miracle, this gem came out of Electric Lady Studios in 2000 to bless an entire generation, and more... I was quite young when I first listened, and as a newly devoted Erykah Badu fan, I had to go and read the whole history of it... I truly believe the Soulquarians wouldn't have been complete without Erykah, and that the sound and poetry of Mama's Gun have a spiritual power, one that really takes you to that recording session in the Village, with Erykah, Questlove, J Dillla and D'Angelo. But history lessons aside, there really is something that moves me about this piece; the perfect blend between jazz and rock, the lyricism, and the flow between songs constellate the album with flawless elements. And what about that voice! Thank you Erykah!
Freedom by Akon
I'm going to listen to it over and over again. When I listened to it for the first time, what struck me was how radio-friendly it was. You can clearly sense Akon's desire to reach a wide audience, with dance-pop, R&B, and a touch of electro sounds, very much influenced by the late 2000s.
